Overview

Its not just people who meet in Kingston, but our past and our present, old culture and new. There`s Port Royal, 16th Century Stronghold of pirate Henry Morgan. There`s the ancient dwellings of the Arawak Indians in nearby Spanish Town. And then there`s the Bob Marley Museum, with its tribute to the father of reggae.

You may have the fortune to view a performance of our National Dance Theatre, or our famed Jamaica Folk Singers and you can sample the treasures of our National Gallery. Finally, watch handcart higglers, hawking their wares, alongside glittering fashion boutiques and you`ll know that Kingston is one city which spans two worlds.

Well over 500,000 people make Kingston their home. Though it is not as popular to tourists as the resort areas on the north coast, there is a tremendous amount of beauty and history in Kingston.

Your article is very informative.

I would like to add that there are other very interesting sites in Kingston which travelers must visit. Downtown Kingston, Culture Yard in Trench Town where Bob Marley lived and started his musical career, and Tuff Gong Studio near Marcus Garvey Drive.

I learn about these interesting places from the staff of the Williams Guest House (http://williamshotelsjm.googlepages.com) at 52-54 Hope Road where I stayed.
