To Daniel from Poland

by Aaron from London

It is one thing for any old person to bash a country with a rich, diversified culture, which incidentely does have a good education system and way of life, but it is quite another for a Polish person to do so.

It strikes me how Polish people appear to have such a strife against black people. You people need to look in the mirror. The education system in Poland is third world, your labour system is a complete joke; the reason why you ugly brutes emigrate and flood to all corners of the earth. You people have NO culture, eat bad food, wear awful clothes, are cold, classless, very unattractive and generally yukky slavic people.

Your opinions are worthless for these reasons!

Oh and by the way are you aware of the intense homophobia existing in your country? The EU tried to prevent Poland from joining because your homophobia record and laws on such were the worst in Europe! Do you really think Poland leads the way human rights? You must be out of your mind! Your country is viewed as hell to most, so get a clue

Ah, how well educated are the people in your country? LOL

Hmmm

by Alisha from Minneapolis, USA

I am a lesbian woman and really would just like to go on vacation and visit a rich culture and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I don't expect to be protected but I don't want to hesitate out of fear.

But really - hate is hate -- none of it is justified.

I am disappointed about the postings below and will seriously consider vacationing somewhere else - just for safety. Who knows... I guess I will check out Puerto Rico.

To Daniel

by Kim from NYC

To Daniel who calls Jamaicans "so dumb and uneducated?". Now isn't that, to use your words, an "intolerant uneducated" comment. U've never been to Jamaica I'm sure, nor have met a Jamaican. And anyway, why do u want to fight hate with hate. U're words were poisonous and bitter. Would u like it if someone said that the Nazi's should take over Poland again and put everyone in conc. camps?! How intolerant and ignorant does that sound!
Daniels quote: "I think it's pathetic that Jamaicans are intolerant towards gay people because they can be bashed for being black..."

I think it's u who are intolerant, pathetic, and a bigot for wanting to do the things you said you would. U also sound a little bitter. It's a sad day when someone like you who knows what it is to be hated, hates so much more.

P.S. I am Jamaican by birth and nationality and I have many gay friends whom I love and Cherish and would trade some straight ones in for. And people like you put them to shame!!

To daniel from Poland

by nikki from jamaica

I read your statement calling Jamaicans nigger, u better mind your words. There is no nigger in Jamaica, Jamaica is a country rich with history and culture, there is no way that Jamaicans will be trapped into a new slavery. Jamaicans are fighters and very ambitious, educated people. There are plenty gays in Jamaica, but it wasn't like this in the past, some of these Jamaicans are trying to explore, but it is not right. The government has put in place a legislation to protect gays, so there is not much gay violence goin on.

What!!!

by Carol from Jamaica

To "That girl from Jamaica" Are you crazy? Saying men don't torture gays!!! You have got to be kidding. I have had 4 of my male gay friends killed over the past 9 years because they were gay. I went to college in Jamaica and 2 of my male gay friends were attacked in front of me because they were gay! I have a very well known friend from JA, community leader...had to flee the country because he had threats against his life, the US gave him asylum. Get real, read, listen get your head out of the sand! Gays are hated and tormented in Jamaica. Love the country, hate the beliefs and attitudes. I wouldn't go back there to live if you paid me!

Wisdom

by Carol from Jamaica

I am a Jamaican gay woman living here in the US who will tell all gays and lesbians traveling to my beautiful island that you need to use wisdom when moving about.I have lived in the United States for the past 21 years and I have gone back several times with or without someone special and each time I have been confronted with the suspicion and a few times crass remarks of rebuffed men. I try not to throw anything in anyones face but it can be uncomfortable if you aren't confident enough as a woman to sidestep these people without being overly defensive or rude.Jamaica is a wonderful vacation spot and unfortunately the hub of homophobia. There is a vibrant gay community (was a part of it) but they are very closeted except for the few and the brave, and with some investigation one can find contacts and little places that are gay friendly. I say, visit, enjoy, use smarts as with anywhere new...don't wander off alone to out of the way spots and keep an open warm smile. Most people are friendly and welcoming, if you really want to relax with your "friend" and be out, visit somewhere else.

LAME

by Daniel from Poland

So i read that gay ppl should just 'get a life' and stop complaining. I wonder, what's the difference between racism and sexual intolerance? I mean it's the same. If I would be called a Poof I think it's as offensive as calling someone a Nigger. I think it's pathetic that Jamaicans are intolerant towards gay people because they can be bashed for being black. Its just pathetic. And it helps people to start hating Jamaican Niggers.

I mean wtf are Buju Bantons lyrics supposed to mean?
It makes me want Jamaicans back in slavery work. Why are you people so dumb and uneducated?

That's where you're supposed to 'get a life'.

The Real Truth Is That

by David Paige from Miami

1st of all I want to respond to the comments by Keisha and Raphael. For Keisha, honey God did create Adam, Eve and Steve. That's why you have heterosexuality and homosexuality on earth. It existed from the beginning of time. I could tell you are the type of person that likes to quote things you have heard other people quote and say. And for Raphael, Jamaicans do understand the financial power that gays have. That's why they hate them so much. Foreign business investors are making an impact on Jamaica's failing economy by purchasing and owning more and more of the businesses in Jamaica, thus dominating the marketplace. Business men whom happen to be gay. This is becoming widely known amongst the natives of the country. Once you understand this, then you can understand the hate and anomosity. Especially if you are a poor heterosexual Jamaican male. Or a Jamaican male that is insecure about his sexuality that stems from his homophobia. These business men are a threat to Jamaica's cultural way of life. All know those who have the money, makes the rules. And those who makes the rules are those who are in control. Jamaicans know this and this is why there is so much anomosity.

Do everything in LOVE

by Cinimonstyk from Florida, by way of Jamaica

As I read this post I am reminded of the great melting pot we live in, no not just Jamaica, no not just America, but the "world as a whole."

And that note, "experience" tells me that we are not all governed by the same morals and values. In that very reality, comes the need of respect of all cultures, races, religions, and creeds.

People are different, often times where we grow up determines the differences among us. Is it the Buddhists fault that he was raised in China and this was the religion of his home? Is it the black girls fault because God created her black. Is it the gay man's fault because he is different from what society calls normal? In terms of this post, sometimes being gay is an experimental choice I suppose, but what about the times it is not? Because we don't know, why not respect each persons individual decision to be who they are?

I am straight, and proud of it; and though I don't agree with the gay lifestyle, God doesn't need me to be their conscience or Holy Spirit. I think if God wanted to speak to their hearts, He would be quite capable to do so w/o any of our help.

It's not our responsibility to conform anyone, but His. And he doesn't need us doing so through hate because he is a God of LOVE! The best thing you can do for a gay person (that you think you can change-i.e. that way by choice) would be to love them and lead by example. Allow God's grace to eminate from you, and through you maybe you can assist in the change....if it's God's will that it be done.

The same way they couldn't change me from my orientation if this is how I am supposed to be, I would assume that thinking about this in that fashion, the same would also apply. If they are naturally so, then for them to change to be hetero would be impossible or a lie to themselves.

Jamaicans, allow people the liberty to be who they are and live how they feel they should because all you're doing is sending yourself to hell through all your hate.

It's ok to set a standard, but do it in LOVE. To turn to violence or hatred to uphold your own standard, in my minds eye negates the point of the whole exercise to begin with....then what was your purpose???

Think about it.

Gay & Lesbian Discussion

by T M from Amsterdam , The Netherlands

First of all, i have never been to Jamaica. But one day i will come to see Jamaica. I think the Jamaican homophobia very hypocrite, because as a government you cant be afraid of homos and just ignoring the other problems in your country just like raping, robbery and killings. A lot of (Jamaican) people say homosex is a sin. Well you may seen it as a sin, but just look to the Jamaican women, they have 8 to 15 children with 5 different men! I think that's even a greater sin. And religion may never been seen as a thing to hate people because i think there is no god or Jaweh, but if there is a god, we are all his children.

Gay's in Jamaica

by Rafael S from Bridgeport CT

In Jamaica the people need to wake up & realize that their are alot of Gay Jamaican's it is a shame that they would stoop so low as to attack someone who is gay. How would they like it if someone attacked straight people for being straight. Their are thousands of gay men & women in America. I know I'm in a relationship with a Jamaican. That is why I wouldn't go to Jamaica. If Jamaica knew what buying power Gay people have abroad that would help the economy of Jamaica they would be more excepting because it would benefit the Island. I'm from Puerto Rico & many years ago their was homophobia in Puerto Rico until gay people guy tired of being attacked & revolted. Maybe that is what has to happen in Jamaica not that I'm for violence but sometimes that is what it takes so that straight people would see that we will not be shut down. That is why in the U.S. we have gained so much strength & power because we will not bow down to society.

Jamaica is not as Homophobic as we think

by A.R from Las Vegas, NV

I agree that it is not advisable for males to be openly gay in Jamaica, since there are a lot of males carry the mask of being straight. Being a gay male that grew up in Jamaica, and now living in the USA (and travel extensively), the Jamaican society is no more homophobic than anywhere else. It is true that homosexual act is illegal in Jamaica, but wasn’t it until a few years ago that it was also illegal in parts of the USA? A few years ago, Mathew Shepherd was killed in the USA for being gay, and a friend of mine was bashed in West Hollywood, CA. Jamaica, a developing nation, has 2.7MM people, whereas the USA, a first world county has 300MM. The key word here is Developing – work in progress. I wonder what the ratio of straight:gay is in Jamaica. It is said that 10% of the USA population is gay about 30MM people.

Hippocrites, all of you

by loret from Philly

I am a straight female who just spent 1-month in Ja. on business. I was alone, though I have family there in the hotel business. I spent many hours observing and realized that Jamaicans are not very different in their beliefs than folks from other country. Is anyone more intolerant than George Bush? Why is it OK to force your way of being on everyone else. I didn't run in the streets/beach with a badge of "I'm hetero and I deserve respect..."

Yes Jamaicans verbally say they hate gays but as been stated, there are numerous citizens who are. Yes there is tremendous poverty and crime, much the same as there is in Phila, Camden, Brooklyn etc. There are children starving in the US but we're spending millions at war. I guess I could go on and on but every country has its issues and will continue to. Jamaica is a work in progress and US is supposed to be so tolerant then why are there so many gay bashings taking place here? At least in Jamaica you know where people stand, publicly.

Listen, we all have to become more tolerant of people, it wasn't (and still is) too long ago that
Blacks were not tolerated, change takes progress and dialogue, you can't force it down people's throats.

I had a great time in Jamaica, I had a great time in DR, in Curaco and every place I go. When I was in Virginia and people there looked at me crazy, I remembered I was black.

Keep the faith, trees don't blossom and bear fruit at the same time.
Peace

To all gays and lesbians

by Keisha from Jamaica

To all gays and lesbian. first of all if yall don't like Jamaicans and their opinions don't come back. Yall sit there and act like every where yall go people suppose to jump up and be happy that yall gay the world don't work like that that's why God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve get it straight. People is intitled to their own opinion and have a right to speak on what they believe and what they don't believe in and that's what us Jamaicans do and we are going to continue to do so. Yall say that we need to focus on other things like proverty well yall need to worry about staying in the United States and being gay and stop worrying about us and our opinion.
If you don't like our music then don't listen to it. If you feel like every time you go to Jamaica you can't be yourself don't come back its as simple as that. Not everyone is going to accept you and we just happen to one of those people.

Sadly, you just proved me... right

by Amanda from USA

To the gentleman who said he was not stupid, and made the comment about all places that got too big for God falling, um, if you haven't noticed, the places that are the most in love with God have the most turmoil in this world (look at the Middle East). Just wanted to point that out. America loves God for the most part, but does not put that above our people, because our people have many different beliefs, many different takes on God, and I think MOST people try to respect those different ideas and beliefs here. America, China, and India... All very different, but making it better than they do in Jamaica. Maybe what you REALLY need, is what half of us have been saying... Read, watch, care, love, learn. Satan is only winning when you're hating. I hate to sound like a patriotic jerk, but America is the beautiful, and the great, and a hell of alot safer than Jamaica. I wanted to visit and help you out with alittle tourism income (God knows you need it), but I have changed my mind. I'm not gay, I'm just, well, not stupid.

Uneducated perhaps?

by Nunya from the USA, thank God.

Well, being a huge fan of reggae, I looked up vacationing in Jamaica. Unfortunately, I am a lesbian. I don't understand all of this talk of choice and birth, and who is right or wrong, when we are ALL sinners. If you have hate in your heart, that is your deal. I don't hate Jamaicans, but I will not visit now, because they hate me. & why? PURE IGNORANCE. Someone from Jamaica below said that if they accepted homosexuality they would have to accept rape and murder. Well, by looking at websites with Jamaican news and message boards, rape and murder ARE accepted... at least more than two people of the same sex loving each other. Hmmm... hate or love? Or do they not know the difference because of lack of education? Lack of education is the reason for this homophobia, it is also the reason there is so much AIDS there. Not because of gay people my friends, but because some moron didn't use a condom. The highest rate of AIDS is actually held by heterosexual black women, not homosexuals, and this is because ignorant men rape and molest these poor women. Please, educate this country. It sounds like Paradise in Hell. I will continue to enjoy some of the music, but I have no desire to visit Hell. & do not speak to me about being "Christian". I was raised Southern Baptist, I can quote the Bible and tell you why hating me is not what Christ says to do. That is an excuse because of the fact you probably can not read well enough to read the ENTIRE Bible, to see what the real point of it all is. Don't pray for me, I will pray for you.

Ban Jamacians from USA and Canada

by jamaicangal from Jamaica

I am Jamaican woman and I am sometimes ashamed to say that I am Jamaican, at the same time I sympathize with my people because they are the way they are because of deep rooted religious beliefs and culture. Jamaicans will tell you to get your nasty gays ways out of the country and then continue their lives cheating on their spouses and fathering many children out of wedlock. It is acceptable for Jamaican men to have a wife and a browning on the side ( puke). Also understand that Jamaicans think of sex only when they hear the word gay or homosexual. They are not aware that gays could possibly live their lives like them. It;s all about sex, and shitty sex. Pure ignorance.

If you notice too, many will say Boom Bye Bye as their only response to gays. This is a famous homophobic song by Buju Banton-

Now there are a few Jamaicans who understand what sexual orientation means, and have been more tolerant towards homosexuals. Alot of Jamaicans have studied abroad and know what the term" human rights".

The Jamaican government has to intervene , and by the look at how some of the officials have reacted to homosexual abuse " gays should hold their corners", it is unlikely that will happen. The Jamaican government is not educated on these issues - Things will only change with International Intervention- If you put it in these terms they may begin to understand. NO MORE assistance from the US unless there is a human rights reform.

Jamaica told Amnesty International to mind their own business when they reported on the violence with a 81 page report.

Instead of trying to kill a batty man, you need to just mind your own business and pass the dutchi pon the left hand side.

Proud to be Jamaican and Homophobic

by Proud Jamaican from Jamaica

I am proud of my fellow Jamaicans and of our government for standing strong and sticking to and defending the morales and values of the Jamaican society. Our country is built on strong christian beliefs and even our national anthem is a prayer asking God for guidance. For all those individuals who disagree with my country's take on homosexuality, ur entitled to ur opinion. But our society is also entitled to defending the values that we hold dear.

Yes, there are gays in my society, but this does not affect the wider values held by my society and the morals and values that we want to pass onto our children. And yes, Jamaica has a lot of problems that it may be argued that we need to be paying more attention to. well i believe that attention is been placed on these issues, definitely not as much as is needed but trust me making our country less homophobic is not going to cause more attention to be placed on our other problems. Jamaicans push this hard to protect our anti-homosexual values bcuz homosexuals push that much hard to push it onto us.

I would like to make it clear that i do not hate homosexuals, i believe that their lifestyle is quite a deviation from normal and acceptable behaviour, but instead of hating and hurting them we should be trying to help them. Jus not helping them to push up them homosexuality in other ppl faces and forcing other ppl to accept their deviances. You do not see murderers or for that matter rapists(which it is been argued are equal sins) going around forcing ppl to accept and tolerate their deviant behaviour. That's why we Jamaicans react with an equal but opposite force to homosexuals.

To those homosexuals planning on visiting Jamaica u just need to accept my society as homophobic and know that if u do certain tings u will get certain responses and stop complaining about the responses u get. If u are not comfortable with our beliefs and u do not think u can keep ur homosexual behaviours on the down low enough to not get negative responses(that u will complain about after)just do not come to my island there are many other places to go to. Jamaica is a gorgeous paradise, its ppl are welcoming and warm and our food, music, culture and everything is just great. But a big part of our culture is our religion which is totally against homosexuality.

As it relates to Jamaican's not been able to hold a "serious conversation" about homosexuality, i think ur comment is unfounded. I do not know the line along which your conversation was taking but more than likely been the warm and friendly ppl that we Jamaicans are the person(s)you were speaking to were just trying to convince themselves that ur not gay and joke out the entire matter. And jus in case its the case that ur saying Jamaican's are stupid bcuz we do not accept homosexuality not accepting another persons ideas does not make u stupid. It simply means that ur an individual, and in this case a society, with your own values.

walk good ppl,
Proud Jamaican

Gay rights

by brenda from Ocho Rios

Over the years I have noticed the pressure been put on government to leagalize gays here in Jamaica. Lesbian and battyman is not right we were put here to reproduce two men and two women cannot reproduce. The gay lifestyle is dirty, its nasty. When those overseas visitors talked about how poor our country is, and that's what we should pay attention to. Yes we are poor, but your own great America the land of freedom or I should say doom that puts up with all the nasty behavior. Have you ever stop to ask yourself about the international laws that your great rich country puts in place that governs poor black country no you people cant see much further than below the belt. and the rear. If one believes in God How could you indulge in such sinful act. Straight people are nasty too I wont be bias here. But homosexuality? On the day of reckon what are you going to say to your God? I am in for the complete termination of gays. If I found out that my sister is a lesbian or my brother is gay or any member of my family terminate them is my cry. You people have corrupted the youngsters, have corrupted our country with your nasty satanic practise. I don't care who you are if you are gay or lesbian terminate you. Have you people ever stop to think what your great America is doing to the people in the middle east, you want to take your homosexuality there too and corrupt the people? Every where that America touches is doom likewise Jamaica. The faggots are just springing up but what can i say they are like duckants and need a repellant

Panty Man Island - JamRock

by Andrew from Trinidad

I'm currently attending University in Ja. Dammm a great place to live, great people I might add.. but people here don't worry about employment, morals, or social issues. All them worry about is who is a faggot and who isn't. The ruff necks boys wear tight up pants and white belts and plenty lip gloss on there lips.. the gays do the same thing. Its hard to tell who is straight and who isn't.
What is scary how come its okay for a Jamaican woman to have a children 8-9 men.. different fathers.. and its okay to have 900 murders unsolved per year in one small island and its okay for young girls to be blowing tom dick and harry all over in car parks and don't give a shit but it isn't okay for two ppl who love each other express themselves..
Jamrock.. Welcome to the Land Of Wood, Water, And Faggots.

Don't come to Jamaica

by Esso Garmex from Kingston, Jamaica

Gays and Lesbians... I would tell you not to come here.

I am an 18 year old, gay male... and I HATE Jamaica.

They have nothing in place for people like us, and because of that....I am leaving as soon as the opportunity comes my way.

I am currently in University doing my Bsc., but as soon as I graduate... I am GONE! I will not be staying here another day after graduation.

Jamaica is a horrible country, and I will certainly be contributing to its "Brain drain".

We have no one to call on...no police, neighbours, 'friends', nor government... its horrible.

Go somewhere else... I would not recommend you to vacation here.

Does straight ppl exist in Jam-rock - Hell No

by Andrew from TORONTO

A man will jump in your bed without his being asked; and as soon as he is finished performing any sexual act that you desire, he will go on streets and bash gays. It is a common thing to do and in the meantime wrapping himself in the bible because they say they are Christians.
I'm yet to meet a Jamaican who is a TOP.I have never seen a culture who love wood like Jamaican men. They are all cock specialist if u ask me.
I go to Ja and drop wood from a side..from Iron Shore to Sea View Gardens.
Boom Bye Bye Inna Bateman Head....my azz.

Lets talk about something different. Lets talk about Jamaican women who breed for every man they meet... let see how the conversation will go.

Recent Visit

by Jamaica Guest from Minnesota

I am a lesbian and recently returned from a week in Negril with my partner. In many ways it was a nice week on a beautiful beach. We took one trip to YS Falls which of course involved a trip through the countryside. What an eye-opener - terrible roads and shack after shack. Any Jamaicans who spend time worrying about gays should turn their energy to bigger problems, like poverty among its citizens. And how about doing something about the incredible number of people incessantly trying to sell "smoke" (marijuana) to visitors and smoking it on the beach constantly, including around children? And why don't they take better care of their animals? Every other dog I saw was limping and apparently homeless, not to mentioned clearly not neutered or spayed. I think much can be learned about a society by how it treats its poor and defenseless (including animals), not to mention the cleanliness of its public spaces - this too was pretty bad. And finally, the drivers!! The worst - absolutely the worst - driving behavior I've ever seen. (This probably is connected to the limping dogs mentioned previously.)

We never exhibit any kind of gay behaviors in public, yet were subjected to nearly constant annoying comments and a couple of outright offensive comments that I won't repeat here. I was afraid the last night because of one comment made to us as we returned on the beach to our resort.

So, the beach was nice and we met some nice people (mostly tourists and the staff at our resort). I would not return. We can find better destinations by far.

by Chunky from Nassau, Bahamas

I sat down and read all these comments people have to say and it's so amazing. First of all I'm 20 years old and I am a lesbian. I visited Jamaica and believe me there were girls coming onto me. There were even girls willing to come back to the Bahamas with me. The guys on the other hand was loving it also. They wanted to have threesomes. So you tell me. All I think is that Jamaica is trying in every-way to paint a good picture of themselves.
Secondly what is the deal with gays and lesbian sinning. Sweetie believe me sin is sin in God's eyes. When the straight people have sex before marriage they are sinning too the only difference with the gays and lesbians is that they are doing it with the same sex.
When I was younger I kissed and flirted with a lot of female school mates and we never thought anything of it until I was knowledgeable of this whole gay lifestyle. I have been gay all my life. I grew up in a Christian home, stayed in the church and was very active in the church. I don't think there is no young person who could have prayed like me. But I was still incomplete.
Tell me how can I love guys when all I know them to do is hurt me? I grew up in an abusive home. My father abusing my mother and my siblings on a daily basis and he claimed to be a christian. Every day living in fear never knowing when he is going to strike. I was raped at the age of 11 and constantly ill treated and molested by guys. So tell me how can I ever learn to trust a guy? There is so much more but if I continue I will never finish.
Then some of you are talking about no one can born that way. People do your research? I know of someone who was born as a guy but he was born into a female body. Believe me it happens and it was his fault. Its all genetics and science. so you tell me what should that guy do? Can you imagine how hard it is for him on a daily basis?
All I'm trying to say is be wise. Read, talk, listen and learn. Don't go against something until you understand it fully. Well I must be going.

Peace out.
Link up on the blink up still!

Gay & Lesbian Discussion

by Marla from Honolulu, HI

First of all how people say what they say about homosexuals. I am a lesbian, I am also 22 years old... When I was 8 thru 11 I was molested by my cousin. When i was 17, I was raped. Every time I try to be with a man, I remember what happened to me when I was growin up... So tell if it is so much of a conscious decision... I was in the church and try to find my way thru god to forgive the ppl that did what they did. I eventually forgave them but I cant forget... Someone Explain That...

I Write To Christians ! ! !

by A Concern Christian (Jamaican) from Jamaica

Christians (I am one myself)...and i categorically respect your right to hate the sin. And you're Justified in do just that. However, I don't respect, tolerate nor appreciate you're whim to hate the sinner.
No one can convince me that homosexuality isn't a sin, 'cause it is! However, to shun, hate, frown upon someone who commits to homosexuality is a sin! People, i am not asking that you accept homosexuality, (because i don't). But, what i am asking is to show love. If God loves the gay person (regardless), and hate and mourn at the sin, why can't you?
My christian people, please show love. Jamaicans have strong feelings against homosexuality and they have that right. So Christians, love them (gays) as your brother & sister, but pray for them. Don't show them disgust, but love and defend their right to humanity, acceptance in the community as a child of God and make a day in your life, to pray and ask God to show them the way.
We are expect to love everyone & denounce their sin, not to do this, is a sin. Peace be with you and God bless your thoughts as you read this. Amen.

Gay & Lesbian Discussion

by Jamaica Guest from Genetics/decision Who Cares

First of all, some people believe that being gay/lesbian is genetics and can not be controlled. Other believe that it is a decision. If you believe that is it a decision then good for you but don't talk about it like its the complete truth. Does it really matter if Humans make a decision to be gay or not? Or weather they are born that way? It really should not matter. We are all humans and should not curse people for who they are or what they want to believe. You know i find it sooo sad to hear people say there are soo many places in the world for tourist to go so you should the gays decide to go to Jamaica. You know what my answer to that is, Ja is such a beautiful place wouldn't you want people to come to your country. Stop being so narrow minded, think out side of the box. I think its really sad that even people who have lived outside of Jamaica still have this uneducated mentality.

Wow. A Lot Of Ignorant People

by Missy from Brampton, Ontario

First of all. To all you people who think you know what the hell your talking about. People who are gay are not born that way. It is a conscious decision. Its not like they NEED a man or a women. Its that they want. They choose to mate with there own sex. I know a person who is a lesbian who has made a conscious decision to be with a man and she loves it. Second of all. If you are not straight and you choose to go to Jamaica. That's your own damn fault if you get beaten or worse. You know that most are homophobic and yet you still choose to go there. Don't expect to get any sympathy from me.

What About The Lesbians

by Missy from Brampton, Ontario

Its kind a sad that the only discussion that is going on here is about the gay men. What about the women? IN reality women who are gay are beaten, shunned and raped by men. I feel sad when I hear of all the cruelty done to these women and not many people are talking about it. Most sad indeed.

The Most Sexual Place Any Way You Like

I live in Jamaica for few years now,
Jamaica and Jamaican are the most sexual place and people I know, I am not gay but I know a lot of gays in Jamaica man and woman, I think a lot more then other places, Jamaican are very sexual people, there is some taboo about the gay thing here, but a lot more people going both ways here then any other place on this planet, Jamaican are beautiful people they like to party and know how to.

The Sad Truth

by Jamaica Guest from Jamaica

It is really sad to see how much effort is placed in this discussion forum about sexuality and absolutely no notice is been given to crime and violence against both tourists and the citizens of Jamaica. From the strong outrages against homosexuality being a sin I really hope non of you are having sex before marriage because that is also a sin. It doesn't seem like that is a sin that is soooo forbidden because teenage pregnancy is on the rise (very high rise). Young girls are not or even worst guys (given that Jamaica is the only place that i know that a man can have 6-7 children with different women, don't have a job and better yet never have to contribute anything to the child, this is other than Africa of course) are cast out of society because they get pregnant so you sould the gays. For the person who says that people have options and they should go somewhere else, that is true but remember more that 50% of the economy depends on tourism (just something to remember). Bottom line leave the homosexuals alone, don't pass judgements cause no one is perfect and as Jesus says who is without sin cast the first stone.

Bun Capleton and the rest a dem

by Island Girl from Jamaica

We are all God's children. This obsession with people and their sexuality is ridiculous and is a distraction from things that really matter. I will not even touch on the rampant corruption. Let us start with teenage pregnancy, 20% of births in Jamaica are given by adolescents (UNICEF). Let us not forget to talk about the number of grown men preying on teenage girls (and yes...boys too...the gay bashers inna dem benz and bimas like it pon di sly). Rape is at a rate of 0.48 per 1000 but this figure is grossly underestimated as most rapes go unreported (UN). The explosion of violent crimes is heartbreaking with annual murder rates consistently passing the 1000 mark over the past few years. So when i hear our stalwart Jamaicans voicing off against the depravity of homosexuality, or when some ignorant DJ gets up on stage and start to 'bun the battyman' (or oral sex and whatever people do in their bedroom) I am amazed and disgusted. If we as Jamaicans could put the same amount of hatred and fervour towards the violence ripping apart our society and the men who won't leave our little girls and boys alone, we would be in a much better place. I am not going to judge what two consenting adults choose to do with their sex life. I suggest we turn our attention to the things that really matter, protect our children, make sure our girls and boys stay in school, and take back our streets from the 'ole dutty' criminals.

Walk good.
Blessed!

Rasta Lesbian

by Lauren from Athens, GA

I grew up in a strict christian home and had a hard time dealing with my homosexuality and religion. I gave up on religion for some time until discovering the Rastafari. I had never felt such a connection with god before. I feel that i must pay a visit to my brethren and sistering in exile in Jamaica. Upon researching more and more about Rastas and Jamaica i feel a growing fear about visiting. I feel that Jamaicans that participate in the mistreatment and violence against homosexuals are blind with ignorance. Just because you don't understand something doesnt give you the right to "BASH" it. If Jamaicans were really as religious as they say they are then they should really take a step back and realize how they are treating their fellow man. In the eyes of Jah we are all his children. Jah wants us to love one another not hate. People all over the world, not just Jamaica, are going to have to learn to coexist with each other. The world is full of people out to hurt one another, so why not try just a little peace. Homosexuals are NOT asking for any kind of special treatment just the same rights that the rest of the world take for granted. I feel in my heart that i need to visit Jamaica and if i face persecution for being the truest person that i can be then so be it. I know Jah love me, enough said.

Gay as gay can be.

by Robert from Jamaican living in Jamaica

I live in Jamaica; and I know that there are more gays in Jamaica than straights. A man will jump in your bed without his being asked; and as soon as he is finished performing any sexual act that you desire, he will go on streets and bash gays.
It is a common thing to do and in the meantime wrapping himself in the bible because they say they are christians. Most of them are hoodlums and cannot read. A few weeks ago, one artist, a gay basher was being interviewed on television. The interviewer asked a question and his reply was "I are tolding you so". These are the kind of people who are gay haters and are pushing their music down the throats of the young; and they are as gay as gay can be. They should allow the gays to go to hell as these unchristianed christians say and they go on to heaven filled with hate while they drink their so called milk and honey. They should love and not hate. The preachers are no different. These people need to be educated. If they were educated they would know that no gay man wants to be gay especially in a country where these uneducated people are so homophobic.

It's Just Jamaica

by that girl from Jamaica

Here in JA there are a lot of lyrics that speak about the disdain felt about gays and lesbians. These artistes make it clear that it is our duty as "righteous" Jamaicans to kill the gays but not so much the lesbians. Most Jamaicans men don't mind lesbians, they fantasize about them. Though there is the thought of killing the gays Jamaican men don't do it. They see them, they shun them, they sing about them, scorn them but never kill them. Yes, "a batty boy mus' get shot" (so they say) but do they really shoot them? Jamaicans men verbally abuse gays. They refer to them as "fish-nemo", "alien", among other devastating titles such as "fagots" but that's the most harm that the Jamaican men do. So yes, everyone has their the right to choose their sexuality and yes the bible says that homosexuality is wrong. Yes, Jamaicans condemn homosexuals but this theory that gays are tortured in Jamaica is not true and must be dismissed. Please note, this is not an invitation to gays and lesbians.

There are plenty gays in Jamaica

by Gay Dude from Bahamas

I went to Jamaica for the third time this year. I stayed at the Hilton in New Kingston. While there I met many employees of that hotel as well as the nearby businesses such as Quad and Jam Rock restaurant that were just as gay as ever. I have walked the streets of New Kingston and and have seen so many blatantly gay men on the streets. I cannot say that I have seen many lesbians but i did see a few at a few parties i went to.
When I left the Bahamas for Jamaica I was told to "pretend" as if i was straight. I did not have to. There were more guys there that were checking me out and coming on to me that even a masculine guy like me was very surprised. No one on my island knows that I am gay unless i tell them yet while i was there they were all over me. Security guards were coming to me to spend the night in my room although I never allowed it. One night I came from Quad and met a guy in my room that the security guard had let in there because he knew the guy was interested in me because he saw him walking with me at the time he was trying to hit on me. Some of the guys in Jamaica (Kingston) wear these tight pants and the sissy shirts and carry the man bags. They are so blatant about it. Kingston, if you find the right people is a gay mans paradise if you ask me.

To Ms. Tamara Allen and everyone else who replied to my comment

by Makai from Atlanta, GA

I am happy that the respondent, acknowledged that I had a choice of words, not a choice sexuality. I am very comfortable with who I am. In case you didn't read my ad in its entirety. I am somewhere where people are tolerable. It just amazes me how in trying to prove your point, one can further prove their level of intelligence or lack there of.

Ignorance stems from lack of knowledge, so if one does not know about a particular subject, you can't expect them to be logical. I am gay, nothing will change that. However I do not flaunt my lifestyle nor do I feel that I am owed anything other than the same thing you and everyone asks for, respect.

It was said that I am bashing people who are intolerant of my lifestyle. Hmm, think about what was written because at this point, your intelligence is almost equivalent to that of a bag of stones.

Live and let Live

by Sonia from London

I have been traveling to JA sine I was 11 years old, thank you my father who though I needed to see 'Back Home' as he called it and I have always had a wonderful time there. I love the island, and the people even though they can be a little ignorant and harsh but hey its not London, this is Jamaica and things can be rough sometimes, there are many places that are still untouched and pure, to me its the most beautiful island on the planet. The men are gorgeous, the women are the most beautiful, the food is delicious and the music makes you want to get up and dance your hips off! I now have a daughter of 17 I didn't wait for her to get to 11, her first trip was from 3 years old. Please stop the warring amongst our people whether it be to gays or lesbian or just to your neighbour, too much killing goes on one that country and half of that ain't to do with being gay, its just a red eye ting, it need to stop. We lack love as a people and we lack love for our self. It needs to stop, Fine if being Gay is illegal then so be it but why kill and hurt someone for their sexuality are we that backward? Even writing it down looks crazy! I know as a country we can do better, we need to start and soon before we destroy ourselves and anyone who has belief in us.

PS: I'm not Gay and I have too much going on in my life to care about what someone else is doing in bed. I have many gay friends both men and women, who have been there for me when I have needed them, my partner at first didn't like it, but he now just realises they are just people like me and you, with feelings and emotions just like me and you. WE are all sinners in Gods eye's so no more argument on this matter all those who lead the perfect christian life and I mean perfect not even you could judge me, my family or my friends.

God bless all Jamaican, stay strong and stay true

One Love

Study It

by Alex from Jamaican living in India

Hundreds of thousands of people in the world right now are living double lives more commonly known as bipolar it is a the sad truth of the average gay or lesbian person. The lie, probably the worst thing ever to be a part of, for it is the ultimate sin. Many fathers can't open up to their wives, many sons and daughters will never be completely honest with their parents. if this homophobia issue doesn't become a thing of the past, very soon, we will all have a lot more to worry about than just dead gays and lesbians, we will also be killing stable families and loving homes answer this question. If your mother was a lesbian would you, (my Jamaican warlock) want for her to be subjected to the ridicule, the pain, and the torment, you bestow upon your brothers and sisters so nonchalantly also ask yourself, if you would rather your son who just turned 15, ... after realising that he is gay, to lie to you for the rest of his life or tell you the truth just so he can feel like a real person again, so he can know that he is not to blame for the life that he didn't give to himself a life that you (my Jamaican homophobic) gave to him, so then, it can never be his fault, you brought him into this world ,... IT IS YOUR FAULT

I was thinking of coming to Jamaica for a visit but I am shocked at how backwards the country is when it comes to a person's rights. I might suggest that homosexuality does not seem to be your biggest problem, education does. You might want to try and jump it into the 20th century, the 21st seems too much to ask.

I do not understand?

by Stone from Atlanta

I do not understand why we as Jamaicans have to hide who we are. I am a Jamaican born and I have been living in the US for a period of time. I am very upset about the fact that Jamaicans are singing songs about my sexuality, that kind of things make me very upset. I was born into a christian household, there is nothing that I don't know about God and about the bible. I feel the way how I am, and it is not about what I have been through in life. I have never been rape or molested. I HAVE BEEN FEELING THE WAY HOW I AM EVER SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL. Jamaicans needs to wise up and realize that we have a place in Jamaican society because if they can sing about it back in the days then that means that they already know the truth but refuse to deal with it while people suffer.

Accept what?

by NO FEAR from Jamaica

All this fuss about acceptance and the lack there of. Have you people ever stop to think that if we accept homosexuality it also means that we should accept thieves murders and rapists in our society? After all, it is their way of life too. So does it mean that we should just let go of our morals and start walking streets and face men tongue bathing each other? It also mean that we should embrace crime and violence, we shouldn't show no discrimination then. I'm aware that God loves the sinner but hates the sin, i agree, but you need to stop with all this liberation f****y.

RE:A Jamaican American in disgust

by Tamara Allen from Jamaica

As it relates to this person's choice of words: Not because everyone does not see eye to eye with your blatant display of homosexuality does not mean that people are narrow minded. I beg to differ, IT IS NOT A CHOICE. Don't go bashing people because we don't tolerate your nastiness if you want to live your darn life the way you wish, why don't you just migrate to some where that makes up silly excuses for people like you? JA is homophobic and you "people"
need to get with it. Yes stealing and fornication are sins, but so is homosexuality. Take or leave it, it nah change!

A Jamaican American in disgust

by Makai from Atlanta, GA

Where do I begin? I must say, being born in Jamaica, I always knew I was "different" from other kids. I never knew what being different was until I came to the United States. It was then that I started to realize why I was different from most other boys. I was gay. But being that my culture doesn't accept that, I chose to live my life for what was deemed "acceptable" to them. I went through high school living this big lie because my being accepted by everyone played a bigger part than my self worth. When I started college, I started to realize that in order for me to be content with myself, I had to be happy with my life and I wasn't. So I chose to finally embrace the fact that I was gay. My family does not know (or at least I don't think they do). But I could really care less. As an educated black man who happens to be gay, I am disgusted by the fact that my own people are so narrow-minded in their thinking and so ignorant in their ways that they fail to see that being gay isn't a choice.
If I could help it, trust me, I would be married by now with kids, but I know that's not going to make me happy. I have been in relationships with males and females and trust me, I can say I know who I am.
If further disturbs me when you hear. "It's a sin" how many of you have kids before you got married, steal? That's a sin too morons. Times are changing, people are changing and the only way for us to evolve is to learn to be tolerant of what's "different". If you are a man or woman for that matter that is comfortable with your sexuality, "gay people" should not bother. Just as me being a gay man, I have developed a tolerance for straight people (joke).

i can not believe it.

by Lucia from London UK

I was proud to be a Jamaican, until i read these bigoted views. I myself am not gay but i have many friends who find it difficult enough being a minority without our own people turning on them cos they chose to have gay relationships.

I am also a christian and while i find it difficult to accept some aspects of gay and lesbian lifestyle, they 2, are gods people and i am not going to judge them for what They choose to do in the bedroom.

Lastly, gay people are born gay and just the same way we are born black, should they really have to put up with all this hate???? We need to stop this attitude and learn to love each other.

Some Born Some Choose

by Spartacus from Texas, USA

I can understand how Jamaicans feel toward the gay community. Many in America feel the same way

However this does not negate the fact that science itself has proven some people are born with a - I don't know how to say it - a mix up of chromosomes where in their body may be male but their psychological makeup is female - and vice verse

I even went to school (back i the 60s - 8th grade) with one poor chap who was in fact a hermaphrodite - now there is a serious issue. Did he ask for it? No ... he was born that way. And those animals at that school forced him to pay the price of his birth every day.

While it is true that many CHOOSE the gay lifestyle - and it is their right to do so without judgement from me - it is ALSO equally true that the choice was made for many at birth

Regardless of choice however, all action reaps an equal or greater reaction. There are health consequences for everything we do that is not of a nature to promote good health

Me? I'm straight and happily married. However I have no issues with any one's choice - I assume that as adults they make an informed choice. And if they don't then they pay the consequences for their behavior.

What saddens me is the violence against those who travel against the main stream of society as well as it saddens me that these behaviors are more often lately not isolated to the adult community and THAT in my world and spiritual view is wrong and must be stopped at the global level.

it's wrong and you know it

by John from Kingston, Jamaica

It's wrong and you know it. Homosexuals are not born they are made that is our belief. Deep down every human knows but not all admit that a man having sex with another man is just wrong and un-natural. I am not the type to go around busting in the faces of gays but I can't bare to be around them and many of them make it bad for themselves. Homosexuality will never be accepted in Jamaica, not in my generation at least.

Gay & Lesbian Discussion

by Jamaica Guest

Hey, BAD GYAL. Obviously you're a christian who hates gay people. Guess what dummy? You're sinning yourself by judging people who happens to be gay which is none of your business.

The bible specifically states that man shall not judge. Only god can judge each and everyone of us. It's not your place and your ignorant neighbors face to judge these people. Let them be gay. Whatever they do in their beds is between them, not you, me or anybody for that matter. If you do your research, you'll no that being gay ain't a choice, just like being straight ain't a choice. I'm straight as a knife, my brother is gay. We were raised the same way. My brother was born that way. Guess what? We still love him because you suppose to love everybody you fool. God preaches love, not hate. Just listen to yourself. You feel that Jamaica needs to keep its strong anti- homosexual stance against gays. How dumb do you sound.

Look at Jamaica, the crime rate is out of control, the poverty is ridiculously high, you treat your women like whores, you degrade your fellow Jamaicans who happens to be gay, you glorify ignorance over intelligence etc. Come on the list goes on and on and on. So Jamaica needs a desperate change. Just look out of your bedroom window and you'll see why Jamaica needs a change. Times are different. People are different. This is not the early 19th century. Man is changing. So with that change should come tolerance of differences amongst us. Get over the gay shit. You have gay people. Face it you idiot.

Like the less reviewer commented, you have gays all in Jamaica. My brother know several gay Jamaicans here in Connecticut. So be for real. Stop being blinded. Gay people are in Jamaica and they're not going any where. Jamaica needs to change. Your country needs to fix the poverty that's unbearable and the rising HIV rates that's destroying your country.

So the GAY issues should be the last thing on your people minds. You're giving Jamaicans a bad name. You know something, you probably gay yourself. A man that's comfortable with his sexuality can careless if a man is gay. So long as you don't touch them they can careless. But most of the men who are so uptight about homosexuals are the main ones sleeping with them on the DL or fighting an inner desire of liking it. So take your blinders off you idiot, and open up your mind to be tolerant of people.

Look at Beennie Mans. He destroyed his career. Also although Yellow Man is straight, he was degraded for being an albino. So see what I'm saying, you Jamaicans need to stop being so damn judgemental of difference. WAKE UP. SMELL THE COFFEE. Leave the hate alone. Leave it alone. Also most child molesters are straight. Not gay! Most of them are fathers, uncles, cousins and relatives. So let's dispel that myth. So you need to get a life and learn something.

U need to know this !!!

by Dre from Trinidad and Tobago

Jamaica has not social and economical issues ! All Jamaicans worry about what people do behind closed doors. U hear it on the street and in the music and its grinded in the culture.....Yet there there is so much faggots living in Hannah Town, Trench Town, Tivoli Gardens, Lucea, Seaview Gardens.. Should I go on. There are toooonnnnnsss of Jamaican men and women who are gay and a lot of them live in Jamaica. I go to Jamaica 10 times for the year.

Check this out a lot of straight Jamaicans go to the USA and England and claim asylum because they are gay and they are fearing for their lives. Yet ! There bashing gays....??? How messed up is this..

Dre

I'm straight as a f..king needle...I just know my fellow Jamacians..all too well.

Angry African American

by Keith from Connecticut

I'm an African American man from New London, Connecticut. My brother happens to be gay! I love my brother even though he is gay. His being gay wasn't a choice, he was born that way. I keep hearing you all say its a sin, well just about everything we do in life can be considered a sin. We was born into sin, so get over it. Yes, the christian bible definitely speaks against homosexuality and host of other things. So if its a sin that still doesn't give you the right to judge people being as though you're a christian. Thou shall not judge. You all whose judging gay people are the bigger sinners. So stop the bull shit! Be for real. All you writing these nasty comments are sinners yourselves. So I getting so sick and tired of you ignorant "third world" Jamaicans complaining about gay people coming to your impoverish country. I've been to Jamaica only two times, it was for business not pleasure. Trust me, I'm an African American who loves my country and the freedom allowed in my country. Most of you Jamaicans are loud, rude, ignorant, and arrogant. I will never come back to Jamaica. Outside of the resorts, you're not sure if you going to be robbed, killed or (for women) raped. To treat gay people inhumane sickens me to no end. To be gay in your country, is to be dead. You treat your own gay Jamaican brothers and sisters like demons. They're still Jamaicans! You suppose to love and that's what the bible preach. So for me why would I come to a country that's sinning against their own brothers and sisters who happens to be gay or lesbian. Jamaicans grow please, most of your women, children, and most definitely your men, are ignorant. You teach your kids to call other kids batty boys, (the most stupidest word in the English language)you teach your men to disrespect women and you teach your men to be mancho with no brains and respect. I'm going to keep my american dollars for another nation whose respectful of its tourist and its citizens. I'm going to spread the word to as many African Americans as possible how ignorant your nation is towards people who are still human but who happens to be gay. It's 2006 and you Jamaicans are still acting like dumb, ignorant buffoons!! Just look at your crime rate, for a Caribbean nation, its out of control. It rivals New York City but the bad thing is, you worry about gay people when you should be trying to fix the obvious poverty which was disgusting for me to see. Kingston was hell! I felt so unsafe, I've never experienced such disorder and chaos in my life. Word of wisdom to you Jamaicans, "thou shall not judge" if you guys love your bible so much stop sinning and love everybody whatever their differences may be. Also if you're coming to my country please leave those attitudes in Jamaica, you're here now, and people are free to do what they want so be respecting of that. Yeah, I know in my country we have some ways to go with crime, race relations and AIDS but each and everyday we're working towards our goals in having a nation that's preaches freedom for all regardless of creed, religion, sexuality etc. Jamaicans preach the word of love and not hate. Just look at your AIDS rate which is the highest in the Caribbean, these people must stay in the closet because of your ignorance. Lets love, not hate! The bible preaches that....

Leave Homosexuals Alone

by Norman from Kingston Jamaica

I am not here to judge no one as to how and why they are homosexuals. It is my believe that homosexuality is mostly influenced as opposed to one being born that way as most homosexuals would have us believe. I also believe that if some one choose to live that life they should be left alone. However homosexuality is wrong and i am sadden by homosexuals acting as if something is not broken and to try convince themselves that every thing is OK, it is being promoted that homosexuality is just a normal thing between two people. What i fear most about homosexuality, are child molesters, just like any other child molesters i am not saying that all homosexuals are child molesters and what i would say to all you homo phobics out there leave homosexuals alone and try to pay more attention to the every moment of your children lives. I would like any one who wishes to respond or have have a discussion please write to willnorman60@hotmail.com

Religion and homosexuality

by Legin from Guyana

Religion can be just to justify any sort of intolerance, as it is used in Jamaica. Just think of the number of wars and killings that have have been carried our in the name of one religion or the other, including Christianity. No, the Jamaican intolerance of gays is just that, plain intolerance and is represents nothing but a desire to target hatred on a convenient group of people.

Go to any of these Jamaican message boards where the issue of homosexuality comes up and you will see some of the most vile and vulgar language being used. You will then discover just how "religious" some of these people are. I am a Jamaican by birth and am thoroughly ashamed of and disgusted by this aspect of our culture.

What Arrogance!!

by Tupid from Jamaica

Naturally because we will not tolerate nastiness being flouted in our faces we are a stupid people. Note " ... impossible to have a serious discussion..". I take it that if someone or a set of people have a different opinion on a subject from the author of this article that makes that person or group of a lesser intelligence.

Do you know your history? Do you know what has happened to all the civilizations in the past which got too big for GOD and deteriorated into debauchery and immorality? Where are they now?

Quote from post by G-Man from Jamaican Living In The USA:

"I don't remember reading in the Bible where man should become lovers of man and woman should become lovers of woman. Homosexuality is still a (SIN) any way you slice it"

My boyfriend and I have been looking to travel to Jamaica, we knew it wasn't a good place for gay's to go but we are not the type to let it be known in front of everyone, we respect people and the different cultures/beliefs. I've read loads of comments like the one quoted above by Jamaican men on the net... this one has finally made me not book a Jamaican holiday... people need to get on with there own life and not worry about what others are doing, this is what causes wars all over the world and bad feeling to other people beliefs. What makes me sick though is to think of the rate of rapes in Jamaica and the high volume of men that won’t leave the visiting women alone. This is more sickening to think about than 2 males in love.

Jamaica: visit or not?

by Daniel from Spanish Fork, UT

"you should not be put off from visiting the island. Just don't expect to be able to display your sexuality openly without an adverse reaction"

Rather than visit Jamaica and risk enriching the homophobic government and violently anti-gay culture, maybe it would be better for gays and lesbians to donate to the organizations working to make life better for Jamaican gays and lesbians like J-Flag or Amnesty International.

Homosexuality

by Dole from Britain

Homosexuality is only a 'SIN' if you're a Christian or of any other Abrahamic religion (I.E. Islam).
If it is perfectly fine in another culture, then how can it be a SIN (wrong) in a first place?
10% of the worlds population have had homosexual thoughts or encounters, get with the times people!

Tradition & Belief's

by Jamaica Guest from Toronto, Canada

I for one am so happy that the general Jamaican public stick to their tradition & belief's and do not tolerate homosexuality. I don't think that Jamaica should be forced to change their rules and regulations around accepting homosexuality as the 'norm' and allow visitors to destroy this. Living where I do, I am surrounded by this & am learning to deal with it but don't believe in it, so I don't think I have to deal with it when I go on vacation and for this reason I keep going back to Jamaica (besides the fact that it a beautiful country, the people are fantastic, the food and culture an amazing experience) and can actually enjoy my vacation with being surrounded by gay & lesbian couples. Congratulations to all those Jamaicans that continue to believe in their faith and tradition, don't give in.

Tolerant Intolerance

by Equality 4 All from Los Angeles, CA

I just don't understand why some people are so bothered, feel so threatened by someone or something different than themselves. Isn't that what this world is made up of?

Your country is beautiful. Your people are most friendly. Your music and food enticing. Patois is so appealing to me.

I realize that you are a very religious people which is likely what forms your feelings on homosexuality. I can understand that. However I cannot understand why your fellow Jamaicans, though homosexual they may be, are not fully protected by your police.

Single Traveller

by Single Female Traveler from Ontario, Canada

I am a single female traveler, that has travelled all around the world by myself for both business and vacations. I have traveled to Jamaica several times on my own and to date have only on a couple of occasions encountered sexual advances or 'stereotypical' behaviour from a Jamaican man. However Europe is no different and neither is North America. Men are men no matter what nationality they are.

I do agree with the statements made about Jamaicans in Jamaica being homophobic. It is absolutely taboo and in a way I am very glad that they have stuck to their belief's even being non-tolerant of it in their resorts etc.

Where did you get our facts about Jamaican male? where did they conduct these studies? this seems quite stereotypical to say about Jamaican men.

Most women that are non Jamaican go to Jamaica for that very reason, is there a warning on the site about about them?
