Moving

by Adam Lewis from Searcy, AR

Well i was reading the information in the above article and it said " Class divisions in Jamaica are still related to color, and there is much lingering resentment - as well as prejudice - against whites, particularly among the poorer segment of society. " and this makes me wonder what life would be like for a young white American to live there.

I have lived all my life in Monteo Bay and loved every bit of it, but for the last two years I have been in school in England. And it is now that I know that I truely love Jamaica and Montego Bay and will never be able to live any where else. It is the most beatifull place on earth.

Love MoBay

by Andrew from New York City, NY

I love Montego Bay, its one of the few absolutely beautiful places in Jamaica. It has all the amenities of Kingston less the high crime and squatting in addition to the beautiful resorts and coastline. Montego Bay is a planned city therefore one can expect schools and other public facilities. I cant wait to move there!

Wanting to move to Montego Bay with family.

by Cherry from Houston, TX.

To person wanting to Move to Montego Bay with his family, I would say don't give up the idea, but make a visit to the island and check out schools and housing before you move there. Check out Ironshore and Rosehall areas for houseing and schools. Jamaica is a beautiful island and very friendly people. Get to know some locals when you got. There are good schools there. I plan to retire there.
Good luck

Moving to Jamaica?

by Mel Law from Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Are you moving there because of a job prospect or your love of the tropics? I would suggest you visit the island before you make plans to move there, and see if you like it!

Moving to Mo Bay?

by Chris

To do or not to do?
I'm thinking of moving to Mo Bay with my wife and two boys 3 and 5. I have never been to Jamaica but have traveled extensively elsewhere.
The question is what can I expect for Schools? Housing? How about just everyday living would you be trapped in resort areas or is it OK with the usual precautions to get out and see the country too?

I was just there a couple of weeks ago. It was nice and we had a really good time, but I wouldn't want to live there. Everywhere outside the resort people had their hand out. I came back from fishing and someone came up to me and was greeting me politely but then it turned out that all he wanted was money. I was there for 7 days. I was fed up with the constant baggering for money. I wouldn't feel safe to raise two children there.

I moved to Mo Bay 16 months ago from London, England. Jamaica is not without its frustrations but that is the same the world over. You will get hassled on occasion but if you're politely forceful enough they'll soon leave you alone, particularly when they realise you're resident here not a tourist. As for schools there are some excellent facilities in the second city.
