My sister and I just returned from a five day visit to the Coyaba Resort. It was wonderful! We totally didn't know what to expect and were very pleasantly surprised. The resort is very small, but is private, secure, clean and well maintained. For the days that we stayed there, only a handful of people were around and thus we had our own private beach, private pool, private bar, etc.! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room was located 15 steps from the beach, with a balcony and a view - just gorgeous. The room was clean and there were no bugs or lizards or anything. The beach is small, so if you are looking for a seven mile beach walk it's not the place for you. But if you want a clean, beautiful beach that's private and quiet with no hassles, this is it! The food - overall very good. The lunch at Dock's Bar and Grill was always a hit, and our favorite was the Jamaican Cobb Salad. We had dinner at the Vineyard one night for "Native Night" - lots of yummy Jerk chicken, etc., worth the money. The one meal that we did not like was on Wednesday night's Seafood night outside, we had a Fettucini dish with lobster in a red sauce. Don't get it unless you like your marinara tasting like Heinz! (lots of fresh lobster though). On two separate nights we went into town to go out and had a blast. One night we arranged for the Boogie Bus to come pick us up at the hotel and drop us off - very cheap, only $5 pp RT. The next night we took a taxi from the hotel. The hotel has a very convenient taxi service to go anywhere, the rates are fare and the drivers are helpful. We didn't get the all-inclusive but certainly did not need it. It gave us the opportunity to go off the property if we wanted something different. We got a great deal on the room through Orbitz. Don't forget to ask Elliston the bartender for the best banana colada you've ever had!Overall a great trip and wonderful resort. We will be back!
My wife and I recently returned from a week at Coyaba Jamaica Resort and found it to be above our expectations. The grounds are extremely clean and continously mainatined by a very polite and friendly staff. The tropical courtyard is beautiful and very relaxing. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and personal. We knew everyones name by the second day and were treated like a friend. The food in the Vineyard Restaurant was excellent, but pricy. I would strongly suggest the all-inclusive on days you will not leave the resort. Drinks range from $3 for beer (Red Stripe) and $6-8 for tropical drinks. The rooms are beautifully decorated and provide a tropical atmosphere. The oceanfront rooms all have balcony's with beautiful views and French Doors that can be left open on cooler nights. The beach is small but the staff of Bobby, Roy, and Allie spend hours raking, cleaning, and making sure the guests are well taken care of.The location is very convenient...just 5 minutes from downtown MoBay and the Airport. They also have a large play area for children under 10. Coyaba is well suited for couples and families with younger children. I believe our teenage children may have been a bit bored unless they are avid watersports fans. Phone calls to the US are expensive (usually ~$8 per minute) but phone cards are available at many stores for ~$11 (20 minutes) and are the best bet. Cabs are expensive but the best mode of travel if you're not familiar with left side driving. If you like large properties, Half Moon and the Ritz Carlton may suit you better (Although very expensive). If you prefer a more personal experience at a small intimate resort, Coyaba is a great choice. Overall we would rate Coyaba a 9 (out of 10).
Man-made beach very small and crowded, little sand in most places. Most of the swimming area littered with rocks and seaweed. The beach cleaning staff oftentimes would literally rake the seaweed from under your chair while you were sitting or trying to sleep, that is, when they were not dumping wheelbarrows of sand around you in an attempt to replenish the beach. Food service for the most part was slow and indifferent, occasionally rude. Breakfast "buffet" often devoid of fruit and stale pastries. Lunch usually was best option, but expensive. Dinner entrees were mediocre, usually overcooked. Rooms otherwise were well-appointed. Front desk "forgot" to call a taxi on day of departure.
We spent 3 wonderful nights at Coyaba in September, 2002 on their all-inclusive program. Despite the fact that we had one day of moderately good weather and 2 days of absolutely pouring rain, we had a fabulous time. They had many movies and games to check out. The room was large, very clean and comfortable. The mattress on the bed was great, which is something I look for, since I have a bad back. The people at the hotel couldn't be nicer. The food was uniformly excellent, no matter which meal we had. I would definitely go with the all-inclusive package, as the costs of the meals otherwise are somewhat high. The drinks were "well-poured" as my friend liked to say. Never a wait, never a bother. A small, intimate, personal hotel. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Coyaba's definition is definitely appropriate. It truly is a bit of Heaven. |
