Don't want to go home!

We are right in the middle of a two week stay at FDR in Jamaica........and we love it.....the staff is great....we are very pleased with the food......tons of activities going on for everyone....the resort has a quaintness that simply keeps growing on you.....I can't imagine a more relaxing holiday for a busy family of five....we were here two years ago and find that the changes made since then only enhance the ambience....hope others get the chance to enjoy what we have!!!!!

Me and my boyfriend just got back from Jamica (8/13-8/16) and the trip was horrible. this country is very very 3rd world. the 2 hr roadtrip to the hotel was so scary they roads are very bad. the resort is not your everyday dream resort. we have no kids so this resort is not the best choose for couples. it was run down and old looking for it to be a new resort, the outer perimeter is scary. the staff was polite but they stare. the housekeeper came by ONCE in 4 day to clean the room and to re-stock the frige. we had to ask for clean towals 4x before they were brung and when they did come they were the ones for the beach. the "suite" if that is what you call it was big but yet it smelled like bug stray. only one ac and that was in the bedroom it got really cold. the refrigarater menu sucked. the food was good but not a lot to choose from everything was either curry or jerk chicken, pork or beef. the acholic beverges were watered down and no really good daily activity and no night life. the very best part of the trip was going home. If your are wanting to have a really really good vaction do not choose FDR.

A diamond in the rough

This is a great place for families that want to bring their kids but also want an adult vacation. I have to say that if it weren't for the nanny service and the kiddie programs, I would have rated this hotel a 2 star, rather than a four. Do not come here with high expectations of glorious suites, with impeccable decor. Nor with the impression that you will be served amazing food, with many different choices each night as it was good food, but just not that many options. The food appeared to be reincarnated with different sauces each night. The kids grille, became just plain boring after the second day. I do have to admit the jerk chicken from the kids grille, is probably the best menu item at the resort. What you will get is a nice relaxing atmosphere with a break from the usual chaos of caring for a family. I could not imagine a more perfect place to achieve this type of tranquility, especially with a family of very small children. It might appear lackluster at first, but as you begin your vacation you realize that the coziness of the resort is what gives you a sense of freedom from the kids but also the ability to keep a close eye on them.

It is a home grown resort, similiar to that of feeling welcome in a grandmother's home. Our nanny needed a little push when it came to keeping our kids occupied, but all in all she was responsible and we felt comfortable leaving our children with her for a few hours at a time. My one complaint about the nanny service is that when they were all around the pool it sometimes apppeared that the nannies were more interested in chatting with one another than keeing a strong eye on the swimming children. I did make sure to remind my nanny that it was imperative that she closley watch the children in the pool b/c they were so young. All in all, I would say that this resort is perfect for families with kids ages 4-12. It wasn't the food, it wasn't the room and it wasn't the adult activities that made the FDR a great vacation, it was the tranquility of the ocean, the Jamaican welcomeness, the attention to your needs and the feeling that your children were well cared for that made this place a vacation worthwhile of high recommendation!
