I read the reviews of the Riu every day for 9 months before our holiday and like a lot of people I had concerns before we went out. As soon as we stepped into the lobby these all went out of the window.This hotel is amazing. We received a fantastic welcome and had a very prompt check in. Our room was ocean view and yes it did smell a little musty but what do you expect with a tropical climate! We loved everything about this resort. The food was fab. The staff couldn't do enough for you, they all work long hours but nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Any problems we had were resloved straight away. We thought eating at a set time and set table would be a problem - but as they say " Jamaica - no problem" - and it really wasn't. There was enough variety to stop you getting bored and it was all really good quality - esp the puddings! A big mention has to go to Ramon and Quaion from the entertainment team - if you go to Riu make sure you meet these 2 (thank you for making our holiday!). The beach is beautiful although it can feel a little crowded in certain places but you can still find a nice quiet spot if you want to be away from everyone. What more can I say - we have just returned from a 2 week holiday and wish we could have stayed 3. Please email if you have any questions and we would be happy to answer them for you. All that I can say is that my wife and I's vacation to Riu Tropical Bay in Negril was the best of our lives. The resort is spectacular, rooms are clean, service is wonderful, and the beach is breathtaking. We will definately be back next year.......

worst vacation ever

We stayed for a week, and it was a week from hell! Our room smellled so bad,it made my spouse sick. finally, after 2 days of complaining, we got a new room, no view, hot and very far from the beach. our original was oceanview! Turned out to be a sewage problem, with gasses leaking into room! No apologies ever! Assigned seating at buffets a real pain, could not sit with new friends. Having to make reservations for seated dining before 8 am also ridiculous, this is vacation! didn't even bring a watch! entertainment pathetic, with lots of childrens "performances" (not all of us think your kids are 'precious'). NEVER AGAIN. FAR TOO REGIMENTED TO BE CALLED A VACATION

We returned from our 2 week holiday 5 days ago (28/09/03)......the only thing we can think about is when we can get back there. Jamaica is beautiful. Our stay at the Riu Tropical Bay was fantastic! We've been to many destinations in the past, but this was by far the most enjoyable holiday we've ever had. Dunns River, Martha Brae, Rick's Cafe...great places to see, don't miss em'. We're not gonna list every detail, just tell you to get out there and see it for yourselves! Wicked beach, the friendliest staff, good food (the jerk chicken served on the beach in the afternnon is finger lickin' good) and the drink measures are lethal, you'll be crawlin' back to your room (along with the resident crab that scared the life out of us one night on the way back to ours!). The staff are always wearing a smile and it's NO PROBLEM for whatever you ask, but finally, credit must be given where it is due....a BIG UP to all the Entertainment Team - Alex (Oh My God, I LOVE MY JOB!),Selfa (Dolly Baby), Alicia (shake dat ting), Ramon (madman), Archie (Mr Cool), Elvis (Dancing machine) to name but a few. They work the longest hours and smile all the way through. Don't wait a minute longer if you're thinkin of going there...we can't wait to return!!!!George & Christine.
