Jamaica > Negril > Accommodation > InexpensiveExpensive | ModerateBanana ShoutSet on 2.5 acres of landscaped grounds with waterfalls, lily ponds, tropical flowers, and fruit trees, this property comprises seven cottages with three units poised on a cliff overlooking the sea. A series of tiered decks with concrete steps leads down the rocks to water. The garden cottages are located across the road with private access to the beach. Each secluded unit contains a kitchenette and ceiling fan. The rooms are furnished with locally crafted pieces and artwork from Indonesia and Bali, and each is equipped with a small bathroom with shower. The best deal at this hideaway is the cottage with the patio barbecue. There's a cafe across the street. 4 West End Rd. (P.O. Box 4), Negril. 7 cottages. Winter: $45-$100 cottage for 1 or 2; $85-$120 cottage for 4; $200 cottage for 8. Off-season: $35-$60 cottage for 1 or 2; $60-$70 cottage for 4; $160 cottage for 8. MC, V. Amenities: In-room massage; laundry service. In room: Kitchenette, coffeemaker, no phone. Blue Cave CastleFilled with a sense of whimsy and fun, this little mock castle is a terrific deal. Battlements and turrets re-create medieval days, and the resort is built over a cave; it duplicates a Czechoslovakian castle. There are steps down to the cave from the garden, where local wedding receptions are regularly held. Guest rooms are decorated with handmade mahogany furniture and antique Turkish carpets covering the walls. Three rooms are air-conditioned, although there are no room phones or TVs. (There's no pool, either, but you can swim off the cliffs in lieu of a beach.) All rooms have sea views, refrigerators, ceiling fans, and balconies. A good restaurant in front is open to the public; the Oceanside dining area is reserved for guests only. Lighthouse Rd., Negril. 10 units. Winter $60-$100 double. Off-season $35-$55 double. Extra person $10. No credit cards. Amenities: Restaurant (next door, under different management); laundry service. In room: A/C (3 units), coffeemaker, safe in office. Country CountryThe owners of this intimate hotel were determined to outclass their competitors, and turned to decorator Ann Hodges, the creative force behind the decor at many of Jamaica's Island Outpost properties. A narrow, meandering path stretches from the coastal boulevard to a white-sand beach, where water sports await. Along the way is this collection of neo-Creole, clapboard-sided buildings that drip with elaborate gingerbread and cove moldings, each an idealized vision of Jamaican colonial architecture. The buildings are painted in a rainbow of peacock hues; inside, concrete floors keep the spacious interiors cool. Each unit has a vaguely Victorian feel, with comfortable furnishings and a shower-only bathroom. There's a beachfront bar and grill, as well as the only Chinese restaurant in town. Norman Manley Bd., Negril P.O.Westmoreland. 14 units. Dec 15-Apr 14 $149-$166 double. Off-season $120-$132 double. AE, MC, V. Amenities: Restaurant; bar and grill; watersports. In room: A/C, fridge.
