More so than any resort in Jamaica, Ocho Rios is now firmly in the all-inclusive resort camp. Many of the older and more established inns have been swallowed up by the Sandals umbrella, reborn as all-inclusives with names like "Beaches." Not for independent or frugal types, these all-inclusives - where things can feel scheduled and formulaic - are nevertheless the best, most luxurious lodgings at Ocho Rios (with an exception or two). Most are quite expensive, as a result. The following resorts all include your room, drinks, and meals, plus often many activities, in the price. Seek detailed clarification of what's included when booking.

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club

Ten miles (16 km) east of Ocho Rios on a beach, this once-tired resort looks new again after an $ 18-million renovation and renaming. Management has been assumed by the Sandals group, normally a couples-only chain but here especially receptive to families with children (big or small); singles and couples are welcomed too, but might not like all the kids underfoot. There's a wide array of accommodations, from family rooms to honeymoon beach suites; each comes with a good-size private bathroom with tub and shower combination. Guests can play free at the nearby Sandals golf course. Note that this place is new, and the rates listed below may change.

This all-inclusive lies 1 1/2 miles (2km) southeast of town, set on 45 acres of tropical gardens on a private estate dotted with red-tile villas. Across from the imposing gate, near the resort's entrance, are the white sands of a private beach.

All but a handful of the accommodations are in one-, two-, or three-bedroom villas, each with a pool, fully equipped kitchen, and shaded terrace. Honeymoon villas have their own whirlpools. Another 36 units are traditional single or double rooms on the third floor of a great house. Accommodations are high-ceilinged, roomy, and decorated in Caribbean colors-well furnished, with particularly fine beds, and bathrooms with well-maintained combo tubs and showers. The cuisine is standard at best.
